This phrasal verb “grapple with” has two different meanings.

Yet, there are two idioms related to the “cold turkey” and we need to know them.

그러나, “cold turkey”와 관련해서 우리가 알아야 할 숙어가 2개 있습니다.

Let me introduce both of them.

두 가지 다 소개해드리겠습니다.

go/quit cold turkey: 1. to stop using an addictive substance abruptly and completely;

2. to undergo sudden and complete withdrawal from a habitual activity or behavior pattern

“go/quit cold turkey”는 직역하면 “1. 중독성이 있는 물질을 갑작스럽게 완전히 끊다/중단하다;

2. 습관적인 활동이나 행동유형을 갑자기 완벽하게 끊다/중단하다”라는 의미입니다.

Even though “go cold turkey” and “quit cold turkey” are quite similar

in meaning and usage as you’ve seen above,

there are differences between them we need to know.

위에서 보신 것처럼 “go cold turkey”와 “quit cold turkey”는

의미와 용법에서 상당히 비슷하긴 하지만,

그 둘 사이에는 우리가 알아야만 하는 차이점이 있습니다.

Let’s start with “go cold turkey.”

Actually, unlike the two meaning discussed above,

“go cold turkey” has the third meaning, which “quit cold turkey” doesn’t have.

3. go cold turkey: to begin or do something without planning, preparation, or practice
