faux는 “인위적인, 인공의, 모조의; 가짜의, 거짓된” 이란 의미의 형용사입니다.  

프랑스어이고 고대 프랑스어인 fals에서 유래되었습니다.

Although the word, faux, originally comes from French,

it is a quite frequently used English adjective.

Thus, let’s discuss what words come with it and how it is used in sentences.

비록 faux가 프랑스어이긴 하지만, 영어에서 자주 쓰이곤 하는 형용사입니다.

그래서, 어떤 단어들이 faux와 같이 쓰이고 문장에서 faux가 어떻게 쓰이는지를 봅시다.

 

faux pas: a social blunder or indiscretion: 실례, 무례

(In French, “faux pas” means false step. 불어에서 faux pas는 “헛디딤”을 말합니다)

                 all of us unknowingly make?

Victoria Turk: Oh, there are so many!

                 I think most of us are aware of the common ones we all make—forgetting to

                 respond to emails, leaving friends “on read” when we’re messaging them,

                 tweeting in anger.

faux fur: fake fur 인조 모피

Faux fur is a noble material, warm and durable.

It is a luxury synthetic that will easily last a decade with proper care.

At the end of its life, a faux fur coat can be recycled or downcycled, a tangible solution

unlike misleading biodegradability claims of fur that are strictly hypothetical.

인조 모피는 숭고한 물질이며 따뜻하고 오래갑니다.

인조 모피는 적절히 관리만 잘해준다면 수월하게 십 년은 지속될 수 있습니다. 

순전히 가설적인 오해를 불러일으키는 모피의 생물분해성에 관한 주장과는 달리,

인조 모피는 수명이 다된 뒤에도 재활용 또는 원래 보다는 질이 낮은 물건으로 재생될 수 있습니다.

faux leather: fake leather 인조 가죽, 모조 가죽

The fundamental difference between the two is that genuine leather is made from

animal hides, such as cattle, buffalo or oxen.

Faux leather is made from a plastic base and then is treated with wax, dye or polyurethane

to create the color and texture.

그 둘 사이의 근본적인 다른 점은 천연 가죽은 소, 버팔로, 황소 같은

동물의 가죽으로 만들어졌다는 것이다.

모조 가죽은 플라스틱을 기반으로 만들어졌고,

색깔과 질감을 만들기 위해 왁스, 염색약 또는 폴리우레탄으로 처치한다

Above-mentioned words are some of most frequently used words with faux,

but faux can be used with most nouns as a sentence below.  ‘
