That’s a really good question. Let me explain what they mean.

Twenty-twenty or 20/20 (read as twenty twenty) has two meanings.

1. “meeting a standard of normal visual acuity (of human eyes)” 

2. “marked by facilely accurate discernment, judgment, or assessment”

“Twenty-twenty hindsight” or “20/20 hindsight” refers

“the full knowledge and complete understanding

that you have about an event only after it has happened.”

You’ve encountered the expression “in hindsight” or “with hindsight” quite frequently.

“in hindsight”나 “with hindsight” 같은 표현을 꽤 보셨을 겁니다.

In my case, the former is a lot more frequent than the latter.

제 경우엔, “in hindsight”를 훨씬 많이 보긴 했죠.

Yet, both of them are commonly used, so I will discuss them on the post.

Hindsight

The first thing for us is to find out what “hindsight” means.

일단 “hindsight”의 의미를 알아봐야죠.

The word, “hindsight” refers “the knowledge and understanding

that you have about an event only after it has happened.”

We need to focus on this phrase “only after it (an event) has happened.

“hindsight”는 “(일이 다 벌어진 뒤에) 사정을 다 알게 됨, 뒤늦은 깨달음”이란 의미입니다.

“어떤 일이 이미 벌어진 후에야” 라는 부분에 초점을 맞춰 주세요.

Based on the meaning of “hindsight,” both phrases “in hindsight” and “with hindsight”

refer to “considering or analyzing the past with consideration of the knowledge that one has now.”

“hindsight”라는 단어의 의미를 기본으로 해서, “in hindsight”와 “with hindsight” 둘 다

Now, you’ve understood both “in hindsight” and “with hindsight” basically mean “looking back,”

but there is a slight difference between them.

이제, 여러분들께서는 기본적인 “in hindsight”와 “with hindsight”의

의미가 “지나고 나서 보면”인 걸 아십니다,

그런데 그 둘 사이에는 약간의 차이가 있습니다.

“In hindsight” focuses more on

“what you would have done” with the knowledge you have now.

“in hindsight”는 현재의 지식을 갖고 “했었을 것”에 초점이 맞춰져 있습니다.

Still, despite the difference, both “in hindsight” and “with hindsight”

are interchangeable in most cases.

What comes in your mind when you see the word, “fair-weather?”

which makes “fair-weather” an adjective.

As an adjective stemming from the noun “fair weather,”

one of the two meanings of “fair-weather” is closely related to the noun “fair weather.”

명사 “fair weather”에서 나온 형용사답게,

Well, the other and more frequently used meaning of “fair-weather,”

might sound a quite different from the first one.

which regards the good weather as a given.

Yet, there are two idioms related to the “cold turkey” and we need to know them.

그러나, “cold turkey”와 관련해서 우리가 알아야 할 숙어가 2개 있습니다.

Let me introduce both of them.

두 가지 다 소개해드리겠습니다.

go/quit cold turkey: 1. to stop using an addictive substance abruptly and completely;

2. to undergo sudden and complete withdrawal from a habitual activity or behavior pattern

“go/quit cold turkey”는 직역하면 “1. 중독성이 있는 물질을 갑작스럽게 완전히 끊다/중단하다;

2. 습관적인 활동이나 행동유형을 갑자기 완벽하게 끊다/중단하다”라는 의미입니다.

영한사전을 보시면 주로 “1. 마약/흡연을 갑자기 끊다,

(중독성이 있는 물질)을 갑자기 그만두다/끊다/중단하다.

in meaning and usage as you’ve seen above,

there are differences between them we need to know.
