cheer up: 1. to become happier or more cheerful or raise one’s spirit;

2. to make someone happier or more cheerful, or to raise someone’s spirit

“cheer up”은 두 가지 의미가 있습니다. 직역하면 1. 더 행복하거나 쾌활해지다, 기세를 올리다;

2. 누군가를 더 행복해지거나 쾌활해지게 만들다, 누군가의 기세를 올리다“입니다.

CF. This phrasal verb, “cheer up,” is not for really serious circumstances,

such as breakup with your girlfriend/boyfriend or getting injured.

You can say “cheer up” to your friend, when she/he becomes disappointed by a little thing,

such as her/his favorite doughnut being sold out today or

his/her favorite baseball team being lost today (not for a big game).

“cheer up”이라는 구동사는 여자친구/남자친구와 헤어졌거나,

다쳤거나 하는 심각한 상황에서 쓰이지 않습니다.

친구가 좋아하는 도넛이 오늘 품절이었다던가, 친구가 응원하는 팀이 오늘 졌다던가

(큰 경기가 아니고요) 하는 정도의 사소한 일에 친구가 실망했을 때 씁니다.
